The Troublemakers Trilogy

From Dragonblade

This trilogy is the first that will exemplify the love I saw growing up in Trinidad, where 'interracial' meant every creed and race were mixing, loving, building families as the norm instead of the exception. When I first began drafting, I was shocked at how quickly the stories came to me. It took one line “Get in loser, we’re going to Gretna Green!” and I knew I had something.

It is my hope that this trilogy will be the first of many in that vein.

MISS THORNFIELD’S DARING BARGAIN

The First in the Trilogy features Adelaide, our Anglo-Chinese female lead, and Basil our White male lead. They are stubborn, intensely affectionate people full of integrity and a thirst for justice.

Ada and her brother are the only surviving members of their unique family, excluding a paternal uncle who is more foe than ally. Between her close circle of friends and her fiercely protective older brother, Richard, her life has been mostly sheltered, until Richard goes missing. I was really excited to write a Chinese female lead who showed the resilience, ferocity, affection and deep family ties prevalent in that culture. Ada is at her core affectionate and mischievous, but when she has to be not only her own protector but her brother’s, she steps up to the plate quickly and resolutely to fight both for herself and for everything and everyone she holds dear.

Basil is someone who takes loyalty seriously, but his ultimate loyalty is reserved for the people who have shown it to him the most. He is stubborn, independent, caring and thrives on being needed and appreciated. When he knows that Richard needs him and by extension, Ada, he decides in that moment that there is nothing more important than protecting her and saving him. Not his family expectations, not the fiancé he was meant to be meeting, nothing.

They are both people finding their way through extenuating circumstances, unwilling to compromise on what they know to be the right thing to do instead of the correct thing. The foundation of their whirlwind love is one of shared morals and perspectives, to say nothing of their mutual stubbornness, passion and courage. I hope you enjoy this first installment of The Troublemakers Trilogy, Miss Thornfield’s Daring Bargain.

MISS MASON’S SECRET BARON

The Second in the Trilogy features Regina, our South Asian female lead, and Leo our Anglo-African male lead. I am so excited to get Regina and Leo's story out to you at last. They are feisty, proud, and unafraid to get their hands dirty.

Regina is fiercely loyal, resourceful, passionate, and brave. She has made peace with the fact that romance and love will have very little place in her life. She will do whatever it takes to help her father protect her mother and little sister, regardless of the cost to her and the temptation Leo presents. There is so much romance in South Asian media and lore but there is also this strong vein of filial piety and duty within the culture. I really relished the opportunity to write a character that brought those two together seamlessly without giving into resentment or speaking ill of South Asian culture. Regina relishes her culture, her deepest pain isn’t the loss of romance but the loss of her identity as a proud South Asian woman.

Leo has fought through every setback he's been dealt with his intelligence, integrity, courage, and sheer stubbornness. He is, at his core, someone determined to protect what he and his family have managed to build in England. Even if it means passing up a chance at true power and wealth. His greatest fear is unintentionally bringing harm to the people he loves and he is only too familiar with the resentment white society has towards a POC excelling in plain sight. He would rather stay in the shadows and safe than risk acclaim and too much attention.

The only thing that could possibly compel these two to change course is the kinship and attraction they feel for each other. Writing their budding attraction and relationship and how their love forces them to learn to fight for their own desires as well as their families, was a challenge but I'm happy with the final result.

I truly hope you all enjoy Miss Mason's Secret Baron.

Miss Hawthorne’s Unlikely Husband

One Season with the Duke

From Entangled

This was the book that got everything started for me, my debut novel, my first ugly literary baby.

Henrietta and Finn are childhood friends who haven’t seen each other in some time. Henrietta is an orphan raised by her aunt and uncle with their family. Henrietta is at her core kind, intelligent, loyal and resilient. She wants to be a credit to her parents but mostly her aunt and uncle. Her loyalty to them drives her to throw herself into the line of fire when a secret threatens to harm them instead of allowing them to protect her.

Finn is the only son of a Scottish duke determined to finish his father’s work of combining the two legacies of his parents. He inherited this duty at the tender age of fifteen when his father died early. At his core Finn is disciplined, loyal and empathetic with a strong sense of duty. He takes his responsibilities seriously especially when it comes to alleviating the suffering of those under his protection.

Finn has had a crush on Hettie for sometime so despite his duty he wastes no time stepping up to protect her from a fate worse than death. But while Hettie is grateful, the scars of betrayal and fear of being abandoned leads to their relationship being tested in a way that their young love may not survive.
